 A Heart's Cry

posted by Chris Morgan on November 30, 2010 12:30 PM as God

He who made the human ear

Can hear our cries and gave us

Tongues to call upon his name

In fear or jubilation.

He who made the human eye

Can see the tears we shed in

Silence, wipe them dry,

   and hold

His child till sorrow passes.

Hear and see, great Lord

   of grace

This child of yours

   who longs for

Your embrace. Make known

   to me

The fullness of your ways that

In captivity to you

I may know liberty.

 A Work in Progress

posted by Chris Morgan on May 21, 2010 7:25 AM as God

The words Paul writes to the Philippian church ring true in every congregation and in every church body the world over: "The one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Christ" (Philippains 1.6).  We are a work in progress; God is not finished with us yet.

And that should bring us, imperfect creatures that we are, some degree of comfort.  We are clay in the potter's hands, being molded into something beautiful.  But we are not yet all that we will become.

As we cooperate with the God who moves among us by the power of his Spirit, may we draw nearer to his perfect will for our lives in Christ Jesus.

 I believe

I believe in the Resurrection.  That is, I believe that the crucified Jesus was buried and that when the women came to the tomb two mornings later they found it empty.  It was empty because Jesus, who was dead, was alive again.

I do not believe in a naturalistic explanation.  Those who say, “We as scientifically-minded people know that the dead don’t come back to life” miss the point.  No ordinary, this-worldly explanation will do to describe the extraordinary action of the God who is beyond time and space.

The Resurrection is miracle in the truest sense, God intervening in history and incorporating the unexpected into the cause-effect chain.  Some find such talk preposterous; I do not, because I believe in God.

And I believe God has chosen to make himself known through Incarnation, to reconcile the world ...
